Allatoona Lake Campgrounds, Day Use Areas To Go Cashless

Starting in 2019, only credit and debit cards will be accepted as payment in campgrounds and day use areas.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced that announced today its campgrounds and day use areas at Allatoona Lake will begin cashless operations in 2019.

Cashless operations provide a more secure way to conduct financial transactions and reduce the
potential for theft or loss of cash funds, the Corps of Engineers said. Only credit and debit cards will be accepted as payment in campgrounds and day use areas. Other forms of payment, including checks, will no longer be accepted.

In campgrounds, cashless transactions in the gatehouse will enhance campground operations,
provide quicker processing of refunds, and improve security and safety of gate attendants. All
Corps-managed campsites at Allatoona Lake will continue to be reservable. Reservations may be
made by calling 1-877-444-6777, visiting www.recreation.gov, or in person at the gatehouse for
same day reservation.

The old cash honor vaults at Corps-managed day use areas have been replaced by automated
fee machines, which offer greater efficiency, improved tracking of fee collections, decreased costs of managing collections, safer collection process and reduced theft and break-ins/vandalism. The automated fee machines accept payments for day-use passes, but the passes must be acquired from the Operations Project Management Office or recreation areas that sell the pass.
