Bartow County Tax Commissioner Steve Stewart is encouraging all new homeowners and anyone who has moved or had a name change regarding ownership to apply at the Tax Commissioner's Office for Homestead Exemption before the deadline.
Anyone owning and residing in their home on Jan. 1 can qualify. State law requires applications be filed before April 1 of the year in which the exemption is sought.
Homestead Exemption will reduce the amount of property tax you must pay on your residence. Rental property does not qualify for any exemption.

Several types of Homestead Exemptions have been enacted.
Once granted, the Homestead Exemption is automatically renewed each year. The taxpayer does not have to apply again, unless the tax exemption is based on income.
