Bartow, Cartersville Schools Make Weather Decision For Jan. 30
BREAKING: While Bartow County was spared from winter weather accumulations, black ice will be a hazard Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — After calling off classes due to forecasts stating metro Atlanta was in for a snow day, the Cartersville City and Bartow County school systems will return to normal operations on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Offices will reopen offices for educators and staff members and classes will be in session for students in both districts.
The Cartersville City School System also said Cartersville High School will operate on its normal FAB schedule on Wednesday.
"We will communicate by the end of the day tomorrow any plans for making up this missed instructional day," the system added. "We look forward to seeing everyone back tomorrow."

The Bartow School System also confirmed its schedule for Wednesday, Jan. 30 in a Facebook post.
Bartow County and other metro Atlanta and North Georgia school systems closed down operations on Tuesday due to predictions indicating a winter weather system could dump as much as one-and-a-half inchs of snow on the area. That forecast turned into a dud, as most of the area experienced flurries that didn't stick around due to temperatures remaining warmer than expected.

A Winter Weather Advisory that went into effect at 3 a.m. Tuesday is now canceled, but patchy black ice is will become a growing threat as temperatures continue to drop throughout Tuesday. Any moisture left on the roadways will refreeze, creating treacherous traveling conditions overnight and into Wednesday morning.
National Weather Service forecasters say the rest of Tuesday will include clearing skies, followed by the coldest temperatures of the year. The mercury will dip well into the low 20s, according to the forecast. The original forecast propelled all school districts in the metro Atlanta area to close up shop, as did many local and state government offices.
With black ice expected to form in areas that didn't get enough sunshine to dry up any moisture on roadways, motorists are encouraged to drive with caution as they go about their normal routines.
