Bartow Sheriff's Office To Host Citizens Law Enforcement Academy

Citizens Law Enforcement Academy applications must be submitted by noon September 2.

Sheriff Clark Millsap is pleased to announce that the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the next Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy.

Applications may be obtained from the Administrative Division at the Sheriff’s Office and must be returned to the Sheriff’s Office no later than Friday, September 2nd, 2016 at noon. The program (which will meet on Tuesday evenings and one Saturday) begins on Tuesday, September 13th, and will meet ten different dates, ending on Tuesday, November 8th. The Graduation luncheon will be on Tuesday, November 15th at noon.

Academy members will be exposed to every aspect of Law Enforcement duties including; Firearms, Personal Safety, Jail Procedures, Administrative Duties, Criminal Investigations, Patrol Operations, 911 Operations, Court Services, Warrants and Civil Division, Crime Scene Investigation, Narcotics/K-9, C.P.R. Certification, and much more. Participants will have the opportunity to ride with Deputies answering calls for service, respond with Investigators conducting an investigation of a crime, work in the Jail, and Court Security.
Bartow County citizens who desire to qualify for the program must complete and return the application for processing and background check completion by 9/2/16. The cost for a Citizen Academy Polo Shirt at graduation is $25 (up to XL). The cost for a CPR Certification Card is $6. It is not mandatory that you purchase either one. Money will be collected the 5th week of class.

According to Sheriff Millsap, “This program has been a success in the past, and the primary benefit of the program is building a closer relationship with the citizens we serve”.
