Cartersville-Area Schools Score High In STEM, Recognized By Georgia

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Three Bartow County schools and a Cartersville school have been recognized as being among the top AP STEM honors schools in Georgia.

State Superintendent Richard Woods last week named 239 Advanced Placement Honor Schools across Georgia for 2022.

The 2022 AP Honor Schools are named in eight categories, spanning everything from STEM to the humanities, based on the results of 2021 AP courses and exams.

Cartersville-area schools with top AP STEM scores are:

• AP STEM Schools: Schools with a minimum of five students testing in at least four AP STEM courses. (AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Physics C, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles)
  • Adairsville High School
  • Cartersville High School
  • Cass Comprehensive High School
  • Woodland High School
• AP STEM Achievement Schools: AP STEM schools (see above definition) with at least half of all AP STEM exams earning scores of 3 or higher.
  • Cartersville High School

In addition, three Bartow County Schools were recognized for high AP humanities scores. Adairsville High School, Cass Comprehensive High School and Woodland High School were all honored as AP Humanities Schools, which means a minimum of five students tested in each of the following AP categories: one ELA course, two history/social science courses, one fine arts course and one world language course.

Finally, Cass Comprehensive High School was also recognized as a top AP Access and Support School, with at least 30% of AP exams taken by students who identified as African-American and/or Hispanic and 30% of all AP exams earning scores of 3 or higher.

AP exams are administered by the College Board, which also administers the SAT. AP courses are one of several ways Georgia students can access college-level learning at the high school level; students who receive a 3, 4 or 5 on an AP exam may receive college credit. The Georgia Department of Education began recognizing AP Honor Schools in 2008.
