The body of a 31-year-old man was found dumped near a subdivision entrance in Butts County, and 2 people have been charged with his murder.

BUTTS COUNTY, GA — Detectives with the Butts County Sheriff's Office have arrested two men in connection to the death of a Bartow County man whose body was found in a subdivision in the central Georgia county. The two men, Cartersville residents Steven Alford Jacobs and Emmanuel James Nesbitt, are charged with aggravated assault and murder in the shooting death of Curtis Author Pitts, 31, also of Cartersville.

"I want to thank the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, the Bartow County Sheriff's Office and my investigators for their determined, proactive and relentless approach in identifying, locating and arresting those responsible for this senseless act," said Butts County Sheriff Gary Long. "The investigation did in fact reveal that the victim nor the suspects had any ties to the Butts County community."

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Pitts' body was found around 6:13 a.m. Sept. 21 near the entrance of the Jackson Glen subdivision on Ga. 36. The GBI said the victim appeared to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help Pitts' family arrange funeral services for the Bartow County resident. Page creator Arminda Sue Stalnaker said Pitts leaves behind a son, sister, mother and ex-wife, extended family members and friends who all loved him. As of Sunday morning, $525 has been donated towards the goal of raising $10,000.

"His sister and I are planning the funeral, but due to his death being so tragic and unexpected, we’re trying to get some money together to give him a proper burial,"Stalnaker said. "I know there are so many that loved Curtis, and anything would help and be greatly appreciated in our time of grief."
