Cartersville Teen Killed In Shooting Identified

The aunt of the 16-year-old said the teenager accidentally shot himself Wednesday afternoon.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — The Bartow County coroner has released the identity of the teenager who died earlier this week in a shooting inside a Cartersville home. Mario Morris, 16, was pronounced dead Wednesday at a residence on Aubrey Street, Coroner Joel Guyton said.

Cartersville police spokesperson Lt. Mike Bettikofer said the investigation remains active, but detectives "do not have anyone in custody at this time, nor are we looking for any suspects."

A GoFundMe account was created on Friday to help the family of the teenager pay for any expenses related to his unexpected passing. The goal is to collect $5,000 and as of Friday afternoon, $155 had been donated.

"Many have said (to) just let them know what we need, so we need donations," she said. "Anything will help. We thank you in advance.
