Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy Set for October

The Bartow County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the next Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy.

"This program has been a success in the past, and the primary benefit of the program is building a closer relationship with the citizens we serve,” Sheriff Clark Millsap said of the series of classes, which begin Thursday, Oct. 3. 

Attendees will meet on Thursday evenings and one Saturday on 11 dates, ending Thursday, Dec. 12, to cover topics such as firearms, personal safety, jail procedures, administrative duties, criminal investigations, Patrol Division operations, 911 operations, court services, Warrants and Civil Division, crime scene investigation, canine operations, CPR certification and terrorism.

Participants also will have the opportunity to ride along with the deputies answering calls for service, work in the jail and courthouse security.

To apply, pick up an application from the Administrative Division at the sheriff’s office. Applications must be returned to the sheriff’s office no later than Tuesday, Oct. 1. 

Citizens who wish to qualify for the program must complete and return the application for processing and background check completion. The cost of the course is $25, which covers materials.
