Douglasville Woman Pursued By Police, Charged With Possession

Briauna Persiani went straight to the Bartow County jail Monday after recovering from injuries sustained in a June 6 police chase.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A Douglasville woman went from the hospital to the hoosegow Monday after a car chase on June 6 sent her crashing into a Cartersville scrap-metal business.

Briauna Carrie Joann Persiani, 18, was transferred Monday from Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital to the Bartow County jail. According to WBHF Community Radio, Persiani is charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.

The charges stem from a police car chase earlier this month where Persiani had to be pried out of her Kia Forte by Bartow County firefighters. Authorities said Persiani’s car hit a curb on Sugar Valley Road, went up an embankment, jumped over railroad tracks, and then crashed into a scrap-metal business on Cassville Road.

Persiana was airlifted to Grady, while her passenger, Luke Kye Layton, 18, of Cartersville, was taken by ambulance to Cartersville Medical Center. Layton was booked into jail the same day where he was charged with intending to distribute both marijuana and a controlled substance, as well as attempting to elude a police officer.

Layton was released on June 9 and Persiani was released Monday, both on $11,500 bonds.
