Bartow History Museum Lunch and Learn

The Bartow History Museum welcomes Dr. Joseph Kitchens.  Dr. Kitchens, the Executive Director of the Funk Heritage Center, will discuss the deerskin trade between Colonial America and Native Americans.

The deerskin trade on the southeastern frontier is well known, but often misunderstood. It lasted barely a generation as a major business, and was mostly carried out by licensed traders anchored to the great warehouses in Charleston. The caravans that carried the tanned skins, as well as the company store owners and their Indian wives, were all part of a great and colorful multimillion dollar drama in the age of European Imperialism. After the presentation, Dr. Kitchens will be available to answer questions.
