Police ID Pedestrian Killed By Car In Cartersville

Antonio Hutcherson was walking on U.S. 41 near Postelle Street when the fatal collision occurred.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — The family of the man who was hit and killed last week by a vehicle in Bartow County has released the victim's identity.

Antonio Hutcherson, 42, died around 2:30 a.m. Dec. 13 when he was struck by a Kia Sorento as he walked along U.S. 41/Joe Frank Harris Parkway just south of Postelle Street, a family member said.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the driver of the Kia was traveling southbound on Joe Frank Harris Parkway in the right lane and was negotiating a left curve when he struck a pedestrian walking northbound.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Reginald Karl Bailey of Cartersville, told the trooper he did not see Hutcherson, who appeared to have been walking north in the southbound lane "near the solid line separating the right lane and the right merge lane," until it was too late to avoid the victim, the report indicates.

A family member told Patch that "Hutcherson was a loving son, brother, nephew and father" who lived in Cartersville for more than a year at the time of his death. He just finished his shift at Honeywell and was walking home when he fatally hit by the vehicle, Hutcherson's aunt, Cleo Jones, said.

Hutcherson's co-workers and employers "mentioned how he was a ray of light, was always smiling and in a good mood," Jones told Patch. She also said the family will plan a memorial service once Hutcherson's body is flown back to Chicago, his family's hometown.

No charges have been filed in connection to the accident at this time, and the GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash, the agency said.
