Fiery Head-On Crash In Bartow Kills Teen, Sends Two To Hospital
A tractor trailer jumped the Highway 411 median Monday night, plowing head-on into a sports car and killing its teenaged driver.
BARTOW COUNTY, GA — A head-on collision between an 18-wheeler and a sports car Monday night on Highway 411 left a teenager dead and both vehicles in flames, authorities said.
According to a spokesperson for the Georgia State Patrol, a tractor trailer headed west near mile marker 5 crossed the median and struck the front of a 2014 Nissan 370Z headed east, causing the Nissan to catch fire. The tractor trailer then overturned, slid down the embankment, hit several trees and also caught fire.
The Nissan’s driver, Jeremy Matthew Pereira, 18, of West Newbury, Massachusetts, “suffered fatal injuries,” the GSP spokesperson said in an email. A male passenger in the Nissan “suffered severe burns to his body” and was transported to Floyd Medical Center in Rome, the spokesperson said. The tractor trailer driver suffered lacerations to his face and was also taken to Floyd Medical.
