BARTOW COUNTY, GA — A good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with a board who attacked an elderly man near Cartersville, according to the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.

WBHF Community Radio reported that sheriff’s deputies responded to multiple 911 calls early Wednesday evening because of a disturbance in the neighborhood of Floral Drive, just north of Cartersville.

What they found when they arrived was a man with gunshot wounds being held at gunpoint by a neighbor identified by Sheriff Clark Millsap only as a “good Samaritan.”

The suspected attacker is charged with initial counts of burglary, aggravated assault and criminal trespass, and he will face more charges once the victim’s injuries are assessed. The two neighbors who came to the victim’s rescue will not be charged, authorities said.

Because of the nature of the injuries and the ongoing investigation, Millsap said no further information or names would be released for now.
