Home Assault Leads To Death Of Elderly Cartersville Man

A man already in custody for assault and burglary may face more charges after the man he is accused of attacking died.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — An elderly Cartersville man has died as a result of injuries received during an assault Wednesday at his Floral Drive home.

WBHF Community Radio reported Sunday night that Calvin Lee, 86, had died after being airlifted to an Atlanta-area hospital, according to Bartow County coroner Joel Guyton. The exact cause of Lee’s death and when he died were not disclosed.

Lee’s injuries occurred Wednesday when a man attacked him with a board, according to the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office. That man was then subdued at gunpoint by a "good Samaritan" neighbor before sheriff’s deputies arrived.

The suspected attacker, who has not been publicly identified by Sheriff Clark Millsap’s office, initially was charged with burglary, aggravated assault and criminal trespass. Millsap said at the time that the suspect may eventually face more charges.
