ID On Body Found In Bartow Landfill Remains Unknown

The Bartow County Sheriff's Office said detectives are working to confirm the identity of the woman whose remains were found Aug. 13.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Detectives with the Bartow County Sheriff's Office continue to work to identify the woman whose dismembered remains were found earlier this month at the county landfill.

Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap is also addressing rumors that the remains have been identified as Courtney DuBois, a woman reported missing in West Virginia. Posts are floating around social media stating that the woman's family has confirmed the body is that of the missing West Virginian.

“Investigators from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office are working with state agencies to positively identify this victim," Sheriff Millsap said.

When confirmation on the identity of the woman or when the arrest of any individuals involved in the case are made, the Bartow County Sheriff's Office said it will release more details.

The remains, which were cut into pieces and placed in bags, were left inside a container for a trash compactor at the site. They were found around 12:30 p.m. Aug. 13 by a Bartow County sanitation worker, the Bartow County Sheriff's Office previously said.

A sketch of what the woman looked like has also been released by authorities. The victim is described as being between 5 feet 2 inches and 5 feet 6 inches tall, and weighing about 150 pounds with brown or reddish hair. She's also believed to have been between 18 and 35 years old, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office has released two photos of tattoos found on the woman's body. One tattoo, located on her outer right wrist, appears to be the Japanese symbol for bravery, agency said. Another photo of a tattoo is one that was found on her upper chest.
