Latest Coronavirus Update For Cartersville, Bartow County

Here are the latest updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is affecting Cartersville and Bartow County.

BARTOW COUNTY, GA — The new coronavirus outbreak in Georgia and across the nation continues to affect Bartow County, where schools are closed for the rest of the academic year and businesses remain shuttered in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases and deaths in Georgia continues to rise: 13,621 total on Monday evening, 2,702 hospitalized and 480 dead. At 6:30 p.m. Monday, the Georgia Department of Public Health reports Fulton County's 1,635 cases are the most of any Georgia locality, with 52 deaths recorded. The highest number of deaths is in Dougherty County, with 78; its total number of cases rank second at 1,245. The next highest numbers of cases are in DeKalb with 1006 cases, Cobb with 816 cases, Gwinnett with 766 cases, Clayton with 396 cases and Hall with 316 cases.

BARTOW COUNTY CORONAVIRUS CASES, DEATHS

Bartow County has tallied 223 coronavirus cases as of Monday evening, with the number of deaths up to 17. The deceased are all 56 or older, and all had underlying health issues.

SCHOOLS

All schools remain closed for in-person instruction for the remainder of the academic year. Bartow County Public Schools and offices will be closed this week for Spring Break. Students will take a recess from Digital Learning activities, and schools will not provide student meals for pick-up or delivery during the break. However, a joint prom for all Bartow high schools is planned for June 18, "pending no state or local laws barring it," according to the district's website.
