Man Assaults Woman, Hijacks Truck To Escape: Bartow Sheriff
The 31-year-old Atlanta man is in the Bartow jail facing multiple charges stemming from the incident at the Budgetel Inn near Cartersville.
CARTERSVILLE, GA — An Atlanta man who authorities said assaulted a woman and then hijacked a truck to escape was in the Bartow County Detention Center Monday on multiple charges.
Raymond Booze Jr., 31, is charged with aggravated assault, battery, stalking, kidnapping and hijacking a vehicle in connection with an incident Thursday night at the Budgetel Inn on Carson Loop.
According to the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office as reported by WBHF Community Radio, Booze showed up unannounced at the Budgetel room of a woman he knew. After she told Booze to leave, he put his hands around her neck and slammed her to the ground.

The woman said that Booze then got in the back of a nearby four-door truck — somebody else’s, as it turned out — and began shooting a gun out the window as it drove away. Two witnesses corroborated the story, according to authorities.
A Bartow County Sheriff’s deputy stopped the truck on the Red Top Mountain Road exit off southbound Interstate 75, where the truck’s driver said Booze took him at gunpoint. The other passenger confirmed the story.

According to the report, the deputy found a Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol in the back seat where Booze was sitting. Earlier, sheriff’s office employees had found spent 9mm shell casings at the site of the incident.
Booze was still in the Bartow County Detention Center as of Monday morning.
