Man Charged In Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash In Cartersville

Russell Steven Carr died Dec. 1 after he was hit by a vehicle backing out of a driveway onto Rolling Hills Drive SW.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — The Georgia State Patrol has identified and arrested the man accused of fatally striking a motorcyclist and leaving the scene of an accident on Rolling Hills Drive SW in Cartersville.

Tony Eugene Barron, 45, is charged with first degree vehicular homicide, failure to report accident with injury/death, hit-and-run, driving with a suspended license, suspended registration, no proof of insurance and felony probation violation.

Barron is accused of hitting and killing Russell Steven Carr, 34, while backing out of a private driveway around 5:55 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1. Following the crash, a witness said the driver and others in the area were able to remove the vehicle off Carr, who was pronounced dead following the crash, the Georgia State Patrol said.

According to the state patrol, the driver of the first vehicle "left the scene," and was last observed traveling south on Rolling Hills Drive.

Jail records show Barron was booked into the Bartow County Jail on Friday, Dec. 7 and remains at the facility with a $7,025 bond.
