Racing Blamed in Deaths of Two Pedestrians

Two pedestrians were killed early Saturday morning while trying to cross Memorial Drive near Hill Street in downtown Atlanta.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, the two were crossing the roadway around 2 a.m. on Aug. 25 when Bryan Butler struck them with his vehicle. Both died on the scene.

Police spokesman Sgt. Curtis Davenport said that the suspect was driving at a fast rate eastbound on Memorial Drive when he hit the pedestrians.

Austell Man Charged with Impersonating Doctor, Treating 500 Patients

An Austell man pretended to be a visiting doctor in Columbia, SC, where he treated more than 500 senior patients, Lexington County deputies report.

Authorities arrested Ernest Addo of Austell on Friday and charged him with unlawfully practicing medicine, . He is being held at the Cobb County Detention Center.

Lexington County Sheriff Jeff Metts said county deputies are beginning the extradition process in Georgia.

Credit Card 'Skimmer' Sentenced to Prison

More than 175 customers of a BP station in Alpharetta saw a little justice last week when the man who was convicted of "skimming" their credit and debit card information in 2008 was sentenced to five years in federal prison.

Boris Toumasian, 25, of Glendale, CA, who stole credit and debit card information and then used it to create counterfeit cards, withdraw money from customers’ bank accounts and buy electronics, was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Timothy C. Batten to serve five years in federal prison on charges of conspiracy, credit card fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Bank of North Georgia, Bank of Coweta to Merge

Synovus, which owns Cartersville's , plans to consolidate two of its other banking divisions— and the Bank of Coweta.
