A Sunday afternoon outing at an apartment pool complex in south Forsyth County turns tragic following the drowning of a 7-year-old boy.

The incident happened around 3:01 p.m. at a pool in the Centennial Apartments in the Windermere subdivision located at 3100 Preston Pointe Way off Highway 20, according to the .

Stephon Alston of Cumming had apparently been playing at the pool when his father left the area to go to the restroom to wipe off his face after he had been pushed into the pool. When came back, he saw his son’s swim suit at the bottom of the pool and realized that his son was not resurfacing.

A 14-year-old boy faces charges of possession and manufacture of destructive devices after suspected explosive that appeared to be "extremely dangerous" were found this morning at a home in Canton's River Green subdivision, the agency's assistant chief said.

During an afternoon briefing, Todd Vande Zande said authorities found "several explosive devices which appear to be pipe bombs" at the home. The devices have been sent to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives crime lab for analysis, he said.

"We don't know what the contents of each device is," said Vande Zande, who added that one of the explosives was detonated near the rear of the home. "That's why they're being sent to be analyzed, but they did have the appearance of being legitimate explosive devices."

A former schoolteacher at New Georgia Elementary in Villa Rica was indicted last week for receipt and possession of child pornography.

Joseph Monroe Wilson, 43, formerly of Dallas but now residing in Spartanburg, S.C., was indicted on the charges Tuesday and arrested Thursday, U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates announced via a news release today. U.S. Magistrate Judge Linda Walker earlier today set a $150,000 corporate surety bond with conditions that include home detention, GPS monitoring and a requirement that Wilson stay away from children.

“This defendant did not simply seek out inappropriate images of children, but as a teacher put himself in a position of trust and authority with respect to children of that same age and went so far as to attempt to adopt a young child,” Yates said in the release. “We will do everything in our power to prevent predators from having contact with potential victims in our community.”

A Savannah woman has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $1 million in federal assistance funds. The woman was apparently part of a group that used 13 storefront operations across the state of Georgia to illegally exchange food stamps and other benefits for cash.

Latricia Allen of Savannah, Jewel Allen of Atlanta and Petrina Barge of Decatur entered guilty pleas in the case on Wednesday. The three join Sabrina Sesberry and her husband Rupert Jones of Atlanta, who previously pleaded guilty in the conspiracy.
