🌱 Plant Bowen Highest Carbon Emissions In GA + CPD Hiring Event

Here are the top five stories today in Cartersville:
- Georgia Power's Plant Bowen, located near Cartersville, ranked the highest in the state for carbon emissions. It also ranked 23rd highest in the country, according to data from the Atlanta-based Enrivonmental Georgia Research & Policy Center. Two of Plant Bowen's four coal-burning units were scheduled for retirement by 2028 under a January 2021 proposal. However, an agreement reached last week would leave the decision of retirement up to the Georgia Public Service Commission. (Northwest Georgia News)
- Tomorrow (Wednesday, Jun. 22), the Cartersville Police Department will be holding a police officer hiring event. Interested parties can head to the Public Safety Building between 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for on-the-spot patrol officer interviews. - Etowah Indian Mounds invites the community to watch its staff build a dug-out canoe and accessories. The team will be working on the canoe today from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with plans to launch the vessel on Jul 9. (Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site)
