Accused Bartow Sex Criminal Tries To Influence Victim: Prosecutor

According to the district attorney's office, the Rydal man accused of child molestation urged his victim to keep silent.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Bond was revoked Tuesday for a Rydal man accused of child molestation who authorities say tried to silence a 10-year-old victim.

Gregory Montgomery, 61, is charged with four counts of child molestation and two counts of aggravated child molestation. According to The Daily Tribune News, Montgomery has been in the Bartow County Jail since December 2017.

Suzanne Brookshire, assistant district attorney for the Cherokee Judicial Circuit, presented recordings of three recent phone conversations Montgomery had with his wife, Doris. The hearing was held in Bartow County Superior Court.

Montgomery also spoke with a 10-year-old girl who is a victim in the case, authorities said. Brookshire argued that by doing so, Montgomery violated the conditions of his bond, which recently had been lowered from $100,000 to $50,000.

“Mr. Montgomery’s specific quote is ‘These people are trying to keep me in jail, ... don’t talk to them about nothing, you hear me?’” Brookshire said, as reported by the Cartersville newspaper.

Montgomery also discussed case strategy with his wife, which Brookshire argued was another violation of his bond.

Cherokee Judicial Circuit Judge David K. Smith agreed and revoked Montgomery’s bond.

No trial date has been set for Montgomery. His public defender has twice asked for continuances.
