Pumphouse Players' Season Opens at Legion

One of the oldest community theater groups in northwest Georgia opens its 37th season Thursday with "Radio TBS."

The Pumphouse Players in Cartersville, one of the oldest community theater groups in northwest Georgia, opens its 37th season on Thursday with Radio TBS, directed by Leslie McCrary.

"The play is about women who live in The Luna Del Mar trailer community in Florida,” McCrary told . "[It] is called 'Radio T.B.S.' because they have a small radio station that broadcasts from their...trailer park. Two ladies run the radio station and the action takes place all around them and [their] station."

Shows set for later in the season are "a fun mix of comedy and drama," according to the press release, and include:

  • Wit, directed by Meghann K. Humphreys (opens Sept. 21)
  • Over the River and Through the Woods, directed by Tony Bowers (opens Oct. 26)
  • A Christmas Story, directed by Laurel A. Walker (opens Nov. 30)
  • Run for Your Wife, directed by Mike Wasson (opens Jan. 25)
  • Love Letters, directed by Mallory Grantham (opens Feb. 14)
  • Catfish Moon, directed by Dave Boggess (opens March 8)
  • Play On!, directed by Mallory Grantham (opens April 19)
  • Picasso at Lapin Agile, directed by Alex LaVelle (opens May 31)
  • A Little Princess, directed by Laurel A. Walker (opens June 28)

2 Shows for Children

This season will feature two shows for children: A Christmas Story as PHP's seasonal Christmas show and a one-act version of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s A Little Princess. Both will feature adult and child actors, with an emphasis on the roles of the children.

"Creating a children’s theater program is a top priority of the PHP, beginning with this season," the press release says.

Special Events Set

Special events during the season, which are open to the public and began with PHP's Classic Film Series in July, include:

  • Improv night in September,
  • An after-hours networking event,
  • A special interactive Halloween screening of the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show,
  • A Johnny Cash tribute band in January and
  • A costume ball in the spring.

Members-Only Events Offered

For the first time, PHP will offer exclusive, members-only events. Membership to the Pumphouse Players is $20 per season or $100 for a lifetime.
