Scoggins Wins House District 14 Special Primary Election
The seat was vacated by Christian Coomer, who accepted an appointment to the Georgia Court of Appeals.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A former Bartow County probate court judge escaped a runoff in his victory in Tuesday's special primary election to fill the House District 14 seat.
Mitchell Scoggins won the four-way Dec. 18 election race with 2,048 votes, or 65 percent. Ken Coomer finished second with 893 votes, or 24 percent. Coming in third was Nickie Leighly with 155 votes or 5 percent, and Nathan Wilson brought up the rear with 2 percent, or 77 votes.
The four Republican candidates were vying to replace Christian Coomer, the state representative who resigned from the seat following his appointment by Gov. Nathan Deal to the Georgia Court of Appeals.
