Shoplifting Suspects Found Hiding Inside Car: Cops

Cartersville police say the two Florida residents stole thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from various stores.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Two Florida residents are accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from at least one department store in Cartersville. Officers were dispatched to a call on Sunday, Dec. 16 of a possible shoplifting at Ross Dress For Less at 51 North Morningside Drive Suite 100.

Officers arrived at the store to find two people hiding inside a vehicle in a parking lot. Police said the vehicle was also stocked with thousands of dollars in merchandise they believe had been taken from Ross and other department stores across multiple states.

Marta Celi Martinez of Opalocha, Florida, and Alexander Suarez, of Haileah, Florida, were each charged with one count of felony theft by shoplifting. They were booked into the Bartow County Jail and remain held with a $5,000 bond.

Cartersville police say they are working to determine other potential victims of the theft, and that its investigation remains active. Additional charges are also expected in the case.
