Third Of Residents At Two Nursing Homes Infected: Coronavirus
Two Cartersville nursing homes have more than a third of their residents infected with the coronavirus, with 18 residents dead between them.
CARTERSVILLE, GA — More than a third of the residents at two Bartow County nursing homes are infected with the coronavirus, according to numbers released Wednesday by the Georgia Department of Health.
The two homes, Maple Ridge Health Care Center and Townsend Park Health and Rehabilitation, both in Cartersville, each report nine deaths from COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. That ranks both in the top 20 nursing homes and personal-care homes in Georgia for COVID-19 fatalities.
Twenty-two of Maple Ridge’s 57 residents — about 39 percent — have tested positive for the coronavirus. At Townsend Park, 33 of 90 residents — about 37 percent — have tested positive.

Employees of the two facilities have been affected as well. Maple Ridge has six infected employees, and Townsend Park has 17.

Other Bartow County nursing homes on the list state’s list of 318 facilities are faring better. They are:
- Highlands Senior Living — one of 38 residents positive, one employee positive, one resident death.
- Cartersville Center for Nursing and Healing — one employee positive, no positives or deaths among 100 residents.
- Tranquility of Cartersville — two of 22 residents positive, no employee positives, no deaths.
- The Fountains in Cartersville — one employee positive, no positives or deaths among 61 residents.
Statewide, the Georgia Department of Health reports 464 deaths from COVID-19 in the 317 nursing and personal-care homes listed. Overall, 3,152 residents — or about 12 percent — have tested positive among 25,245 residents total, and 1,568 residence employees also have tested positive. The report includes COVID-19 activity for all licensed nursing homes, all licensed assisted living communities, and licensed personal care homes of 25 beds or more.
