Atlanta Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Reparations Town Hall
Part of the Social Action Civic Engagement Impact Series Hosted by the Chapter's Social Action Committee

As part of the Atlanta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Social Action Civic Engagement Impact Series, a virtual town hall meeting "Reparations for Black Atlantans" will be held on Thursday, December 8th from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. on the chapter's Zoom and Facebook platforms. The forum is intended to inform attendees about reparations from the national, state, county, and city perspectives, with a focus on local movements. The Chair Dr. Karcheik Sims-Alvarado and Co-Chair Mr. Marcus Coleman of the Fulton County, Georgia Reparations Task Force will participate. Sheila Y. Flemming, Ph.D. , Co-Chair Social Action Committee Atlanta Alumnae Chapter, says in addition to these presenters, residents of the city of Atlanta will hear about the meaning, scholarship, and activities surrounding reparations for Black Atlantans. There will be local as well as national leaders and scholars participating on the panel of experts who will show how reparations is a justice issue and how other municipalities are already studying the idea. In fact, although HR 40 (a bill in Congress) has not succeeded in passing, there are at least 26 cities and one county ("Fulton County, GA) studying it; the city of Evanston, ILL has already studied, voted, and now compensating its residents for housing discrimination. The goal is for the Atlanta City Council to appoint a task force on reparations ASAP. Atlanta City Councilman Michael Bond is moderator of the town hall meeting..
