Boy, 14, Shot Outside Atlanta Home: Report

Teen taken to hospital breathing & conscious, police say.

ATLANTA, GA -- A 14-year-old boy was found with a gunshot wound late Wednesday outside an abandoned home in northwest Atlanta -- and police want to know why.

When police responded to the call just off Fairburn Road around 8 p.m., they found the boy's father on the scene trying to help his son, according to news reports.

"When officers arrived his father was already on the scene trying to suppress the wound, stop the bleeding," Sgt. Warren Pickard told WSB-TV. "From there, he was picked up and taken to the hospital."

Police don't know who shot the teen or why, WSB reports. Neighbors told local media that the boy was often bullied by neighborhood kids. And there's this detail:

"For whatever reason, the child's pants were down around his ankles [and] his shirt was off," an Atlanta police spokesperson told WGCL.

The wounded teen was reportedly taken to the hospital, police said. An investigation continues in the case.
