Local High School Student, Ce’Darius Glaze, Honored in D.C. by Mr. and Mrs. Colin Powell
Ce'Darius Glaze was 1 of 75 students nationwide flown to D.C. to receive the Sun Life Rising Star Award.
Ce’Darius Glaze is an outstanding student leader from Therrell High School, and one of only 75 students nationwide who received an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. as part of the Sun Life Rising Star Award.
America’s Promise Alliance’s third annual Building a Grad Nation Summit
America’s Promise Alliance’s third annual “Building a Grad Nation” Summit, is the nation’s premier annual event focused on measuring progress in the nation’s efforts to increase high school graduation rates and close opportunity gaps for youth. General Colin Powell is the founding chairman of America’s Promise and Mrs. Alma Powell serves as Board Chair.

Rising Stars Award winners each received a $5,000 college scholarship for their commitment to education and their communities. The lucky 75 who were flown to D.C. had the additional privileged of meeting and interacting with Mrs. Powell, while also receiving a special tour of the nation’s capital.
Ce’Darius Glaze, who plans to be the first college graduate within his family, is a dedicated peer leader and volunteer camp counselor at the Andrew and Walter Young Family YMCA. According to the Sun Life Award, "Glaze works in a nonprofit community kitchen every morning, participates in Teen Leadership programs, competes on the varsity track team and volunteers at a youth after-school program."

Ce’Darius Glaze exemplifies what the Rising Stars award means, and shows how one person can overcome personal obstacles and still find the time and energy to help others overcome theirs.
