NPU-T Meeting: "Burglaries are Up in Zone 1"

Zone 1 APD spokesperson says burglaries skyrocketed in July.

Over a dozen NPU-T neighbors gathered at August's monthly neighborhood meeting, and were told by Lt. Charles from Zone 1 that burglaries were up for the month of July.

Compared to last year, the number nearly doubled.Β  The officer expressed that he was surprised by the numbers because the rest of the summer the numbers were down.Β  The summer months are routinely high crime months because so many juveniles are out from school and not under supervision.Β  Since May Zone 1 and Zone 4 made efforts to crack down on juvenile crime, and up until the month of July it worked.

It is important to note, as Lt. Charles does in the video, that most of these burglaries were not "home invasions", or even items stolen from peoples homes.Β  The majority of the thefts were copper and a/c unit thefts out of vacant properties.Β  Being that there are a number of vacant properties still in the neighborhood, thefts like this may continue.
