Remembering the Birmingham Church Bombing and its 4 Innocent Victims

The 50 year anniversary of the devastating church bombing was remembered by thousands across the country.

Sunday marked 50 years to the day since a stack of dynamite was detonated outside a Birmingham, Ala., church.

The city is wrapping up a week-long memorial for the four young black girls killed in the blast.   It’s an event that shocked the world and transformed the landscape of the civil rights movement in the 1960s.

The bombing happened a little more than two weeks after the historic March on Washington.  Hundreds of people gathered Sunday at the 16th Street Church where bells tolled at 10:22 a.m., exactly 50 years from the moment when the dynamite exploded.
