• Nearly 1,000 metro Atlanta dogs need homes as shelters exceed capacity (fox5atlanta.com) — Hundreds of dogs at DeKalb County Animal Services on Chamblee Dunwoody Road urgently need adopters or fosters as metro Atlanta shelters exceed capacity. With nearly 1,000 dogs across Fulton and DeKalb in need, Chamblee residents can help by visiting the local shelter during extended daily hours, where all adoptions are under $85 and fostering options are available.
   

• Former Clayton County jailer pleads guilty to using excessive force against detainee (justice.gov) — A Chamblee resident and former Clayton County jailer has pleaded guilty in federal court to repeatedly tasing a compliant detainee at the county jail, violating the man’s civil rights. Prosecutors say video showed the officer shocking the detainee at least six times after slamming him into a wall. Sentencing is set for March 10, 2026, in Atlanta federal court.
   

• DeKalb nonprofit helping homeless receives millions in grant money (thechampionnewspaper.com) — St. Vincent de Paul Georgia, headquartered on Chamblee Tucker Road in DeKalb, has received a record $5 million grant from Jeff Bezos’ Day 1 Families Fund to fight family homelessness. Over the next five years, the nonprofit will expand one-on-one services, housing support, and wraparound assistance for unhoused families across Georgia, aiming to ensure no child sleeps outside.
