Here are the top three stories in Columbus today:

  1. Columbus police is searching for 19-year-old Jerimiah Walker, who is wanted in connection with the Feb. 18 Motel 6 shooting that killed three people and injured a child. Police urge anyone with information on Walker's whereabouts to call 911 or Sgt. D. Baker at 706-225-4296. (Columbus PD via Twitter)
  2. The Muscogee County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Patrol Units and Drug, Gang, and Fugitive Units discovered a stolen Nissan Altima while conducting patrols. The driver attempted to flee law enforcement but was unsuccessful. Deputies found almost a pound of marijuana, 50 oxycodone tablets, 23 Ecstasy pills, and a stolen Glock 22 .40 caliber in the stolen vehicle. (WTVM 9)
  3. During a Thursday night meeting on Mar. 9, Columbus Police Chief Freddie Blackmon was given ten minutes to speak about his strategy to address the recent violence in the community. Chief Blackmon said he will work with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies on crime reduction and prevention. On Mar. 14, he must present a strategic plan to the council addressing the issues that were raised during the recent assessment, which include issues with hiring officers, retaining officers, morale, and more.
