Winston Rec Center shooting pleads not guilty to murder, armed robbery (wrbl.com) — A Columbus man has pleaded not guilty to murder and armed robbery in the fatal shooting at Shirley B. Winston Recreation Center, with a local judge finding probable cause to move the case forward. Detectives say surveillance video shows the suspect bringing in a backpack later used to access a handgun, and he is now being held without bond after extradition from Philadelphia.
   

2. House of Heroes gift wrapping station returns to Peachtree Mall (wtvm.com) — House of Heroes volunteers are wrapping gifts daily at Peachtree Mall in Columbus through Christmas Eve, raising donations to repair and renovate veterans’ homes. Local children's book celebrates Columbus through young authors' eyes (wtvm.com) — Young writers from across the Chattahoochee Valley have released “My Columbus, My Community,” a children’s book sharing what makes Columbus feel like home to them. Through kid-friendly stories and illustrations, the book highlights local neighborhoods, safety, health care, and education, while reminding adults to listen closely to children’s voices.

Columbus first responders work through holidays to keep community safe (wtvm.com) — Columbus firefighters will spend Christmas Eve on 24-hour shifts, keeping residents safe while many families celebrate at home. Veteran and new first responders describe the sacrifices their families make, the camaraderie at the firehouse, and share reminders about health, kitchen safety, and careful driving during the holidays.
