Rabies Confirmed in Columbus Neighborhood (thegeorgiasun.com) — Health officials are urging residents in Columbus’ Timbercreek subdivision near Whitesville Road to be extremely cautious after a raccoon tested positive for rabies this week. Neighbors are advised to avoid wild or stray animals, ensure pets are vaccinated, and immediately report any bites, scratches, or unusual animal behavior to Columbus Animal Services or the local Environmental Health Office.
   

2. Keep Columbus Beautiful annual Christmas tree recycling campaign returns (wrbl.com) — Columbus residents can recycle their real Christmas trees Dec. 26–Jan. 12 at designated drop-off sites, where they’ll be turned into fish habitats to improve local water quality. The Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission, Columbus Water Works, and other city departments are teaming up to keep trees out of landfills and boost aquatic ecosystems. Remember to remove all decorations and hardware before dropping off.
   

3. Columbus police arrest 17 in Porch Pirate Operations (wtvm.com) — Columbus police recently ran three porch pirate sting operations across the city, leading to 17 arrests and 31 charges as package thefts spiked during holiday deliveries. Officers used decoy packages and say early action on these property crimes helps prevent more serious offenses. Residents are urged to keep reporting suspicious activity as enforcement continues.

A Blend Of Southern Comfort And Indian Spice Made This 1970s Dish A Hit (tastingtable.com) — Country captain, a curry-style chicken dish, has a surprising Columbus connection: General George Patton requested it while visiting Fort Benning, and officers’ wives there helped spread the recipe nationwide. Fort Benning soldiers head home for holiday block leave (wtvm.com) — More than 10,000 Fort Benning trainees and drill instructors are heading home from Columbus for the Army’s annual holiday block leave, filling local roads with emotional reunions. Families lined up overnight for drive‑thru pickups, while others will see their soldiers off by bus to Atlanta for flights home to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s together.
