Here are the top three stories today in Columbus:

  1. The Columbus Police Department arrested five individuals for selling alcohol to minors during an underage alcohol purchase detail at 19 Columbus businesses on Mar. 17. Five of the 19 businesses were caught selling alcohol to minors and violating Georgia's alcohol laws. The department conducted the operations after the Special Operations Unit received multiple complaints about local businesses selling alcohol to minors. (WTVM 9)
  2. On Mar. 17, Columbus police arrested 21-year-old Christian Barajas and 27-year-old Caleb Summar for armed robbery of a local Piggly Wiggly grocery store. The night manager of the Piggly Wiggly on the 4900 block of River Road told police that an unknown man pointed a gun at him and robbed the store on Mar. 11. Police found the majority of the money and other evidence at an undisclosed location in Columbus and then arrested the two suspects. (WSB-TV)
  3. WTVM News Leader 9 will host a free regional job fair on Mar. 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Columbus State University Cunningham Center located at 3100 Gentian Boulevard. The event will include employers from many local professional and trade industries, including retail, auto, manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, food service, education, and more. (WTVM 9)

  • The Columbus Police Department released surveillance photos of two suspects who are wanted for stealing a Piedmont Medical Center employee's wallet and making fraudulent purchases.
