Here are the top five stories today in Cumming:
- Athletes from a Forsyth County CrossFit gym are engaging in a 24-hour continuous workout session to generate funds for childhood cancer research. Last year, participants from CrossFit Dynamo successfully raised over $73,000 for the Foundation for Children’s Cancer Research. The local gym is once again rallying community members and athletes to join the cause by completing 24 exercises in 24 hours, all in support of the foundation's mission. - A man, identified as Brayan Tarasona, drowned in Lake Lanier near Van Pugh Park on Monday, Aug. 21. Tarasona, 22, was swimming with others when he encountered difficulties while trying to return to the shore, as reported by nearby Hall County Fire Rescue. Despite the efforts of marine rescue teams who used a remote operated vehicle to retrieve him from the water, Tarasona was transported to a hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
