The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Georgia was $2.22 per gallon on Sunday, about the same as the previous week, the AAA said in its weekly fuel price briefing.

The national average of $2.42 per gallon also remained steady, but tensions between Saudi Arabia and Libya helped cause prices to rise 10 cents per gallon in Florida, where gas supplies were already tight. The average price per gallon in the Sunshine State on Sunday was $2.53.

That might be particularly impactful on Georgia families who will travel to Florida for Spring Break vacations next week.

“This [Middle East] conflict shouldn’t continue affecting oil and gas prices unless there is an actual disruption in oil supply,” AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in the briefing. “The worst looks like it may be over for now as oil prices are now receding. However, gas prices usually rise faster than they decline, so it could take a week before pump prices begin falling again. The good news is that gas is still more than a dollar cheaper than last year’s peak prices, and not expected to reach $3 a gallon this year.”

The lowest price reported Monday in Cumming on AtlantaGasPrice.com was $2.06.
