Here are the top five stories in Cumming today:

  1. The Cumming Police Department has established a partnership to provide police officers with discounted tuition rates for attending college. The Cumming City Council approved this initiative during an Aug. 15 meeting, aiming to create higher education opportunities for the officers in the department.   2. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is inviting applications for its upcoming Citizens' Law Enforcement Academy, which is set to begin next month. The academy will span nine weeks, with classes held on Mondays from 6:30-9:30 p.m., starting on Sep. 11. This opportunity is open to Forsyth County residents, employees, and business owners aged 21 and over, aiming to foster better communication and understanding between law enforcement and the community.   5. A 44-year-old Snellville man was arrested by Forsyth County deputies on charges related to a 2022 burglary on Waterstone Drive. The incident took place on Nov. 2, 2022, when the homeowner received alerts from his Ring doorbell of a person on the back porch. Security footage showed the suspect prying open a glass door, causing it to shatter, and breaking a window. (Appen Media)
