Cumming Woman Charged with Fraud, Forgery

Stephanie Burton, 38, allegedly wrote dozens of bad checks that cost businesses tens of thousands of dollars.

CUMMING, GA -- A Cumming woman has been arrested after Forsyth County sheriff’s deputies say she wrote dozens of bad checks over several months.

Stephanie Burton, 38, has been charged with deposit account fraud and forgery after investigators discovered she had allegedly written bad checks to the tune of $13,000, sheriff’s office spokesman Epifiano Rodriguez said.

Burton allegedly has 32 case files open against her in Forsyth County alone and is accused of running a similar fraud scheme in Dawson and Gwinnett counties, Rodriguez told Forsyth County News.

She is being held in the Forsyth County jail on a $56,210 bond, Rodriguez said.
