Fares Going Up for County Dial-A-Ride Service

It's been about 10 years since the transportation service increased fares.

For the first time in about 10 years, the passenger fare for service will increase.

“We have been able to maintain the same rates for many, many years, but rising operating expenses and fuel costs necessitated the need for an increase,” said Avery Gravitt, director of the county's Fleet Services, in a statement.

Beginning Thursday, Sept. 1, the rates will increase from the current $1.50 per one-way trip and $2.50 per round-trip, to a flat $2.00 per trip fare.

“Even with the slight increase in our fare, our rate will still be lower than or the same as our neighboring counties,” said Gravitt.

The Dial-A-Ride program operates Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and offers on-call transportation services to Forsyth County residents.

“Residents utilize Dial-A-Ride for a variety of purposes, including such things as medical appointments, shopping, education and errands,” Gravitt said.

Passengers must be at least 18-years-old or travelling with an adult.

All five of the Dial-A-Ride vans are equipped with lifts for wheelchair service and is funded by the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners, the Georgia Department of Transportation and passenger fees.
