Grant Opportunities Available to Non-Profits Through United Way

Completed applications must be received in the United Way office no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23.

is offering non-profit organizations (outside the United Way’s 14 Partner Agencies), schools or other governmental entities serving the citizens of Forsyth County grant opportunities available through the 2011 Community Grant Program.

According to the agency's Melissa Corliss, Director of Community Impact, its Board of Directors determined that funds would be made available this year for community projects which are consistent with United Way’s funding emphases and impact areas.

"This is an opportunity for eligible entities to apply for funds typically ranging from $500-$5,000 to assist them in providing needed services in Forsyth County," said Corliss in an e-mail to Cumming Patch.

The much needed services, new projects or expansions of ongoing projects include:

  • assisting the elderly
  • promoting self-sufficiency
  • helping to meet basic needs
  • supporting health services
  • providing crisis and emergency services
  • helping children and youth develop into productive adults or providing services to citizens with special needs

Corliss said the United Way of Forsyth County began Community Grant Funding, previously known as Priority Needs Funding, in 2000.
