Local Post Office Offers 24-7 Service to Cumming Residents

The next time you are taking care of business at the you may be able to save yourself some time by using its Automated Postal Center (APC).

APCs work like ATMs and can process many of the transactions normally handled by a retail employee at the window. APCs handle noncash transactions, accepting major credit and debit cards, according to a statement from the United States Post Office (USPO).

"We're just reminding customers that there is another option for conducting their postal business rather than coming into the post office," said Michael Miles, spokesperson for the Atlanta District of the USPO. "We know that everybody is busy and APCs are available 24-7. It's another way to conduct business at your own pace and time."

Miles said the USPO began installing APCs in the Atlanta District (including Cumming) in 2004 and have grown in popularity with customers.

"When I'm out and about in our post offices they generally are pretty popular because they are easy to use," he said.

APCs are also a time saver for many. "Cumming is a pretty busy post office and so they are a good option for saving some time and getting you out of the line," said Miles.

APCs are located in post office lobbies and move simple transactions away from the retail operation. They allow retail professionals to use their skills to assist customers with more complicated mailing needs.

The APC performs the following services:

• Dispenses First Class Mail, Priority Mail, Parcel Post, Express Mail, and APC postage in any denomination.

• Dispenses First-Class Mail stamp booklets.

• Provides Postal Service and mailing information, including ZIP Code lookup.

• Offers domestic insurance up to $500.

• Weighs and rates envelopes, flats, and parcels up to 70 pounds.

• Prepares Express Mail forms and Certified Mail return receipts.

• Offers Delivery Confirmation and Insurance Services.

• Provides a system-generated receipt for payment.
