Charlotte Gardner and Cindy J. Mills are recognized for their contributions to the community over the years.

The Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) presented two members of the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Board with a GRPA State Volunteer Award.

Charlotte Gardner and Cindy J. Mills received their awards at the group’s recent conference held in Macon.

“We congratulate Charlotte and Cindy for receiving these prestigious volunteer awards,” said Jerry Kinsey, Director of Parks and Recreation.

According to a new release, Gardner has served on the Parks and Recreation Board for eight years and is currently the board’s chair. Since moving to Forsyth County more than 40 years ago, she has been involved in the community, including the county’s arts and cultural programs.

Mills, a lifelong resident of Forsyth County,  has served on the Parks and Recreation Board for 11 years. She is a founding member of the Forsyth County Parks Foundation, which was established in 2010, and currently serves as a Foundation board member. During her youth she participated in athletic programs and has served as a volunteer basketball and softball coach for more than 10 years.

“Both contribute so much to the county and to our parks and recreation system, and we appreciate their time and dedication,” said Kinsey.

The Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Board is an advisory board to the Parks and Recreation Department. The members provide, establish, maintain and conduct countywide wholesome and cultural programs of recreation activities; participate actively in local, state and national recreation affairs; and educate the citizens of Forsyth County by disseminating information concerning the development, growth and continued progress of the recreation movement.
