Lt. Gov. Duncan to Speak at Thanksgiving Gala for Foster Care Youth
Connections Homes will host the Nov. 3 event for youth aging out of foster care.

LAWRENCEVILLE – Georgia’s Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan will give the keynote address at a Thanksgiving gala honoring young adults who have aged out of the foster care system and their mentors who now guide them on their new path in life.
Connections Homes will host the Nov. 3 fundraiser at the Georgia Aquarium from 6 pm to 9 pm. Connections Homes is a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to connecting young adults who age out of foster care and are isolated from a stable family support system.
Each year, more than 700 young adults age out of the Georgia foster care system. Connections Homes helps pair some of these youth with mentors to keep this forgotten population from making poor choices that lead to homelessness, crime, prostitution, poverty and addiction.

Connections Homes partners with hundreds of churches across North Georgia to recruit mentors for young adults who are age out of foster care. The mentors guide them in a host of ways including having the youth visit their homes or take them out for meals and offer them advice on life challenges – just as a parent would.
Also speaking at the gala will be Lynn Johnson, who worked for President Trump in the Department of Health and Human Resources as the Assistant Secretary for the Administration of Children and Families. In her role, she oversaw foster care issues.

Duncan, a Cumming resident, was elected Georgia’s lieutenant governor in 2018. He has actively promoted foster care legislation during his four years at the helm of the Georgia Senate.
Proceeds from the gala will help connect more mentors and youth who age out of foster care to stop the cycle of poverty and the repetition of children who wind up in foster care, said Pam Parish, founder CEO of Connections Homes.
