📰 News we're reading

1. Forsyth County in review: County acts to get a grip on growth (appenmedia.com) — Forsyth County leaders have frozen most new residential rezonings and are rewriting development rules to slow growth that’s straining Cumming’s schools and roads. With enrollment and population surging, commissioners extended a countywide moratorium while they consider higher impact fees, larger lots, and stronger buffers, drawing both praise from residents worried about traffic and criticism from property-rights advocates.

2. Kylie Gazza (unipanthers.com) — A Cumming native, Kylie Gazza has been hired as an assistant coach for the University of Northern Iowa women’s soccer program, bringing local roots to a Division I staff. The former Samford standout defender arrives after coaching at Abilene Christian and with several youth clubs, where she built a strong reputation for leadership, defensive training, and player development.

3. More kids being hospitalized with the flu across metro Atlanta (wsbtv.com) — A Cumming pediatric practice is reporting an unusually severe flu season, with at least two otherwise healthy children already hospitalized for complications like muscle inflammation and pneumonia. Doctors across metro Atlanta say flu cases and hospitalizations are rising fast, and they strongly recommend vaccination, noting it still offers solid protection against severe illness even in a less-than-perfect match year.

4. Forsyth County deputy honored after life-saving response to domestic shooting (atlantanewsfirst.com) — A Forsyth County sheriff’s deputy from Cumming is being honored for a life‑saving response to a domestic shooting that left two young girls without their parents. Recognized as Employee of the Fourth Quarter, Deputy Anderson John broke into a Suwanee home to reach the children and their critically injured mother, injuring his hand in the process and remaining humble about his role.
