Pinecrest Academy graduating senior, John Schafer, has been named a National Merit Scholarship Recipient. NMS winners have demonstrated outstanding academic performance, exceptional PSAT/NMSQT scores, and a strong application.

Schafer is also the STAR Student for Pinecrest Academy. To be nominated as a STAR, Schafer had to meet several criteria, including having the highest SAT score at Pinecrest on any single test date through November of his senior year and be in the top 10 percent or in the top 10 students in his class, based on grade point average.

Additionally, Schafer was named an Alternate Finalist for MathCON Finals 2025. MathCON is an innovative mathematics platform developed to enhance mathematics education. Only the top percentile of students who competed in the online MathCON competition are invited to the National MathCON Finals.

This is the second time Schafer has made a notable achievement through MathCON. Last year, he ranked 20th out of all 11th graders who competed, earning an Honorable Mention award. He was among just 630 students from 4th-12th grades invited to compete in the 2024 National Finals.

Schafer plans to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology in the fall.
