- The City of Dallas is holding its next City Council Work Session and regular meeting today, Aug. 1. The work session will be held at 4:00 p.m., followed by the meeting at 5:15 p.m. Interested community members can view the agenda for each event on the city's website. Some topics to be covered during today's Council meeting include the 2023 events schedule draft, an ordinance amendment to OA-2022-03 on criminal trespassing, and a proposal for construction material testing for Battlefield Trail Phase II. - Dallas's own Will's Grocery, dubbed the "last old country store" in the county, was highlighted on a recent episode of Paulding County's video series, Waypoint. Located on Cartersville Highway in the Burnt Hickory community, this charming storefront is still being run the way the original owners did, according to current proprietor Billy Wills. - The City of Hiram is currently accepting bids for the upcoming City Hall parking lot project. Bidding opened on Thursday, Jul. 28, and proposals will be accepted through 10:00 a.m. on Aug. 25, at which time they will be opened and read aloud in the City of Hiram Annex Building. - Paulding County Superintendent Steve Barnett shared a message with local families to mark the start of the 2022-23 school year. In addition to sharing updates on upcoming projects in PCSD, including the groundbreaking of the new middle school on Seven Hills Boulevard, Barnett reminded parents that Aug. 5 is a Digital Learning Day (DLD), meaning all PCSD students will learn remotely and appropriate arrangements must be made. - Mark your calendars: A Mad Artists' Entertainment is showing its production of "Arsenic and Old Lace" at the Dallas Theater from Aug. 12 through 14. This "uproarious farce on plays involving murder" will run for four performances: One on Friday evening, two on Saturday, and one on Sunday afternoon. Tickets can be purchased on the theater's website for $15. Senior citizens (age 62 and up), students, military members with ID, and groups of 10 or more will receive a discounted price of $12.
