Dallas Woman, 74, Saved by Acworth Officers

Acworth Police Officer Russell Mines went to the Cobb Parkway QuikTrip Monday for gas. He ended up helping save a 74-year-old Dallas woman's life. 

It all started about 2:27 p.m. Monday when Mines was filling up his patrol car. He noticed Margaret Kehrt lying in the parking lot, unconscious and not breathing.

Mines retrieved his medical bag and notified dispatch. Cpl. Luke Reynolds arrived on the scene to find an emergency room physician, Dr. William Zorn of Watkinsville, tending to Kehrt.

"Both the doctor and Reynolds were unable to locate a pulse," said Capt. Mark Cheatham, spokesman for the Acworth Police Department. "By this point, the victim 'showed no visible signs of life' and was in immediate need of CPR."

Reynolds gave Kehrt mouth-to-mouth while the doctor began chest compressions.

"After a few minutes," Cheatham said, "the victim regained consciousness and was answering questions from medical personnel who arrived on the scene." 

Kehrt was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
