- Hiram native, Walter Matthews, could be the next tight end addition to the Florida Gators' class of 2024, as he visits the campus this weekend. With former coach William Peagler's departure, new coach Russ Callaway will have the opportunity to meet Matthews in person during this visit. The On3 recruiting prediction machine favors Florida, but only gives them a 17.4 percent chance of landing Matthews, as Ohio State closely follows with 15.2 percent odds. Matthews is a consensus four-star talent, ranked as high as 87th overall in the class of 2024 by 247Sports. (Gators Wire)
- Dallas native William Fletcher won the $1,000 Berkley Big Bass award after weighing in a 5-12 largemouth in the second round of the MLF Invitational at Lake of the Ozarks. The full field of 150 anglers concluded the two-day opening round on Friday, with only the top 50 pros advancing to Championship Saturday. John Cox of DeBary, Florida, will take a 7-ounce lead into the final day of the event after weighing in five bass totaling 18 pounds, 4 ounces on Day 2 to take the lead. (BassFan)
- Carroll County Fire Marshal Nic Turner passed away after battling an illness for several weeks. Turner, who spent most of his time at Villa Rica’s Station 9, joined Carroll County Fire Rescue in 2008 and became Fire Marshal in 2019. As marshal, he oversaw all Community Risk Reduction, building and life safety inspections, and fire investigations. The county asks for Turner’s family's privacy to be respected, and requests that people keep his family, friends, and fellow firefighters, particularly those at Villa Rica Station 9, in their thoughts and prayers. - According to data compiled by air and travel services provider Travelbag, Atlanta is the second most relaxing city in the U.S. The study considered factors such as population density, air quality, walking trails, noise, and light pollution levels, and overall happiness scores to determine the most tranquil cities. With a score of 41.9 out of 100 for noise and light pollution and 61 walking trails, Atlanta is seen as a bustling city that still manages to provide a serene and rejuvenating atmosphere. Additionally, Atlanta boasts premier spas like the Four Seasons Hotel Spa and Iwi Fresh Garden Day Spa. (BestLife)
